Albie & Fehime are not the heroes the galaxy needs. But right now, they’re the only ones around.

From Bound to Brew comes Makeweights, a “sci-fi thriller with a big heart” in a review from Colin Griffith.

Two researchers, normally stuck writing reports and eating lunches in the operations room of an intergalactic vessel, they finally get the chance to prove their worth. But when they finally leave the ship, things go south and it may be up to two underdogs to save the universe.

About the author of nerdy things

Thomas A. Fowler got in trouble at school for drawing characters. A creative mind from the start, his English and Theater teachers, Mr. Mac and Mrs. Queen, guided his focus and showed him what he could do.

Starting out writing plays, he got his BA in Theatre Arts in Directing with a Writing Minor. After college, he began working in video production, earning him the chance to direct a television pilot, several short films, and culminated in writing and directing his first feature film, “The Code: Legend of the Gamers,” a mockumentary celebrating pop culture and video games.

Shifting to novels, he now has over a dozen publications to his name. He saw short stories released in a handful of anthologies from various publishers and began self-publishing his own anthologies as well. In 2018, he won the Living Now Book Award from Independent Publisher and the Jenkins Group for his work on Porcelain Prompts, alongside the co-author of the series, Melissa Koons.

His debut novel, The Thales, was self-published, in 2019 in which The Martian heads to the bottom of the Pacific. Then, Bound to Brew released his second novel, Makeweights, a sci-fi buddy comedy akin to Hot Fuzz meets Star Trek.

He continues to write, working on his Crash Philosophy Anthology series, as well as the sequels to The Thales and Makeweights.

He is a husband to a beautiful wife, a father to three daughters and one son, and has lived in Colorado for nearly his entire life. Like all Hufflepuffs, he is a fierce friend and works on supporting everyone around him in whatever way he can, celebrating fellow authors and their success.

FILMMAKING

The Code: Legend of the Gamers

Writer, Director, Producer

Made for no budget, starring a group of college students and graduates who worked together in a dinner theater production of “Harvey,” Thomas A. Fowler’s first feature was a mockumentary made in adoration of video games and the best mockumentaries out there like “Best in Show,” “The Office,” and “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.” The type of production where actors were boom operators, catering was frozen lasagna, the film still found its way to sold-out shows in Colorado and screened at local film festivals, starting Thomas’ love of writing and directing!

Assistant director

After a stint writing novels and short stories, Thomas felt a calling to return to film making. That’s when fellow author and filmmaker Travis Heermann called, asking if he’d work on a new horror comedy short film he was writing and directing.

Appearing in multiple film festivals such as the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival, the Days of the Dead Film Festival, and Rocky Mountain Nightmares, the quirky short film continues to run across the festival circuit as Heermann celebrates his massive accomplishment. Thomas A. Fowler has been proud and honored to be a part of the journey.

SLASHER SESSIONS

WRITER

“The only thing they’re killing, are their affirmations.”

Fowler’s official return as a screenwriter is with Slasher Sessions, where the world’s most notorious killers have to sit down to open up about their feelings.

The short script is currently entering film festivals, with filming occurring in Spring of 2024.

The feature script is also completed, with two sequels outlined.
